A namesake for our school, Mary McLeod Bethune, was born in Mayesville, South Carolina in 1875. She was an early Civil Rights leader and a prominent leader for education.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day was once called "Decoration Day." It was started shortly after the U. S. Civil War, when families decorated the graves of so many soldiers killed in battle. In 1971, Memorial Day became an official U.S. Holiday.
